I hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July! We had a pretty crazy week at our house leading up to the 4th of July. But that’s what builds character right!?
We found out about a week before the 4th that Sammie had Hand Foot & Mouth Disease. If you’re not familiar with Hand Foot & Mouth Disease, it’s basically a super common virus that runs in the toddler crowd. Symptoms include blisters on their little hands, feet and mouth. Although for most kids the blisters on their hands and feet aren’t painful, it’s the blisters in their mouth that causes a lot of pain.
We noticed something was up with Sammie when she had a very mild fever on Wednesday and by Thursday morning had some pretty nasty looking bumps and a rash on her legs and arms. I assumed it was her eczema but with it not clearing up after a day of ointment and Cortisone, I decided to take her in to urgent care even though at that point I knew what it was. We had a few BBQs to attend this past weekend that included lots of kids and some newborns so I needed confirmation that we needed to in fact, stay home as she was highly contagious. I also needed peace of mind that with me being pregnant and exposed to the virus (which was unavoidable since Ted was out of town all weekend) that Baby Girl #2 would be fine. In case you’re curious, Baby Girl #2 is fine. Phew! According to my OB it isn’t a virus they’re concerned about while pregnant as it doesn’t actually pass to the placenta.
In the end, we were lucky that Sammie had what appeared to be a very mild case. Her rash cleared up within 3 days and she didn’t have any of the sores in her mouth. Once her fever broke, she was back to her regular self; albeit a little stir crazy being quarantined at home but still her chatty, energetic self.
On the 4th of July, we hosted our annual 4th of July BBQ at our house. Ted and I have been hosting our families on the 4th since 2015 and this year was no different! It actually works out well since neither of our families have cabins so they’re all usually around for this holiday. This year since it was so rainy most of the day, everyone spent most of the time inside which actually worked out well being in our new house. There was plenty of room for everyone and the layout is pretty open which is a bonus! Unfortunately with all the goings-on of hosting and preparing food, feeding a hungry toddler and chatting with everyone I didn’t take a single picture. So you’ll have to trust me that it was fun:)
The next day I did some work out on the deck for a few clients since the weather was gorgeous, then we did a bunch of errands, grabbed lunch and hit up the park. We’re lucky that we have 2 parks within a few blocks of our house and Sammie absolutely LOVES going to the park. Mostly to see other kids and dogs – she’s not a fan of the swing or slide anymore..I’m hoping that’s a short-lived toddler phase!
How was your 4th of July? Did you do anything fun to celebrate? Comment and let me know:)
